Jesus established the Feast of Mercy and the new devotion to His Divine Mercy because He greatly desires to save every soul. (Diary 1182) One of the purposes of this new devotion was to tell the world through St. Faustina that the Day of Divine Justice was near. He told St. Faustina, “Write down these words, My daughter. Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the day of justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them”. (Diary 848)
He gave absolutely no indication as to when this would occur. The only revelation He made was to say that “the awful day, the day of my justice, is near”. (Diary 965) Through His revelations, Jesus wished to tell the world, that between now and the day of His Divine Justice, the floodgates are open through which graces of His mercy flow. He has solemnly promised that anyone who approaches the fount of His Mercy will be forgiven. Through His revelations to St. Faustina, He has given vivid descriptions of the depths of His mercy which would convince even the most cynical and distrusting soul. He has made every effort to convince us that we should trust absolutely and firmly in the promises of His mercy and that no matter what sins we have committed, and no matter how much we think He would never forgive us, He has revealed that our sins are like a drop falling into an ocean of mercy. (Diary 718)
Jesus desires that everyone knows about His promises of Mercy to all souls who seek forgiveness from Him. He has promised that He will not only forgive sins, but He will also inundate souls with graces of healing and peace. He has promised that on the Feast of Mercy, “whoever approaches the Fount of Life on this day will be granted complete remission of sins and punishment”. (Diary 300) He has told St. Faustina that He wants us to trust Him, to trust in His Goodness, to trust in His Mercy and to trust in His unfathomable love for each and every human being, no matter what state their soul is in or no matter what sins they have committed. He told St. Faustina, Were a soul like a decaying corpse so that from a human standpoint, there would be no hope of restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. Oh, how miserable are those who do not take advantage of the miracle of God’s mercy! (Diary 1448) That Jesus will forgive you and heal you from the wounds of your sins, there can be no doubt.
But He wants the world to know that the day of His Divine Justice is near so that they will have time to avail of the immense promises He has made of complete forgiveness of their sins and remission of punishment. He established the devotion to Divine Mercy so that the church could tell the world about the promises He has made to all people. We do not know and we will never know until the day of Justice is upon us, but we do know for certainty that now is the time for mercy. Throughout the Diary of St. Faustina, Jesus is adamant that St. Faustina constantly writes about His mercy so that the whole world could know about His mercy. He wanted those who knew and believed about His mercy to tell others by any means available to them.
He established the Feast of Mercy so that priests could preach about the mercy of God on this special holy day. He made known to St. Faustina that the efforts of her religious sisters to have prayer cards printed to help promote the message of Divine Mercy was very pleasing to Him. He showed St. Faustina a vision of the power of the writings of Fr. Sopocko and Fr. Andrasz, who were her spiritual directors and were writing about the Mercy of God. He also revealed to her that by the promulgation of the Image of Divine Mercy that many souls, even during her short life, were returning to Him already.
Furthermore He has made specific promises to all who would help spread the message of Divine Mercy. He said, Souls who spread the honour of My mercy I shield through their entire lives as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Saviour. (Diary 1705) As often as you want to make Me happy, speak to the world about My great and unfathomable mercy. (Diary 164) With souls that have recourse to My mercy and with those that glorify and proclaim My great mercy to others, I will deal according to My infinite mercy at the hour of their death. (Diary 379) No soul will be justified until it turns with confidence to My mercy and this is why the first Sunday after Easter is to be the Feast of Mercy. On that day, priests are to tell everyone about My great and unfathomable mercy. (Diary 570)
We can all help tell others about this new devotion and the mercy of God. There are many ways to do this, either by talking with your family and friends about God’s mercy especially if they were troubled in any way with doubts as to whether God would forgive them or not. We can tell people about the Feast of Divine Mercy and teach people how to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. We can leave some leaflets about Divine Mercy devotion in our local churches and especially in our hospitals and nursing homes. We can give people presents of Divine Mercy prayer books to help them to better understand this new devotion. We can ask our parish priest to celebrate the Feast of Mercy in our parish. We can ask if an Image of Divine Mercy be hung in our local church if one is not already present. We can start Divine Mercy Prayer Groups and invite people to join. Also, we can defend God if we hear anyone criticizing God and tell them about His love and mercy. Jesus has said that being merciful is one of the most powerful ways to spread devotion to His mercy. We can forgive those who have hurt us, even if only in our hearts. So there are many ways in we can spread devotion to Divine Mercy. Everyone has at their disposal a way to help Jesus to tell the whole world about His mercy and this new devotion.
We must never forget that Jesus has promised His help to all those who make efforts to spread devotion to His Mercy. He has told us that it is extremely pleasing to Him that we promote the message of the mercy of God either by deed, word or prayer. We must make every effort to fulfil our obligations to Jesus to help promote His message of Mercy for the world. We should not forget that on the day of our judgment we will be held accountable for our actions in this regard. Jesus has given us clear instructions that He desires that the whole world know about His mercy and we must do all we can to insure that we try our very best to tell the whole world about His mercy.
