Irish priest Fr. Eddie Veasey spent over thirty years working with the poor in the shanty town on the outskirts of Guayaquil, Ecuador, living on city trash dump sites and begging in the streets for survival. He became so overwhelmed with demands on both his time and his pocket helping these people that he appealed to HUDT “Divine Mercy in Action” to come to his aid.
We had no hesitation in answering his appeal. He was looking for a medical clinic for the very poor in his parish that had neither the money nor the transport to travel distances for treatment in a hospital. We helped Fr. Eddie build a new clinic which eased the trauma and suffering that these people and their children went through every day. A year later we helped him built a new maternity unit to add to this.
Then we helped him open a day centre to feed the aged and the children there. “Divine Mercy” is a now a devotion in that area and many families have a picture of Divine Mercy in their home. We also let people know that the help we bring is in answer to God's call through Saint Faustina to spread His mercy in deed, word and prayer.
